The Presbyterian Women’s Association of Paxton (PW) purpose is to:

  • nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study
  • support the mission of the Church worldwide
  • work for justice and peace
  • build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom

Presbyterian Women seek to nurture women of all ages by encouraging the fellowship of members and providing Circles, fellowship times, and mission and outreach projects. All women of the church are members of PW.

The Coordinating Team (Board) meets the first Tuesday of most months at 10:30 a.m.

The Unity Circle Bible Study meets the first Tuesday, September through June at 12 noon for lesson and fellowship. Each person brings a packed lunch. A hostess provides devotions, beverages and dessert. An annual picnic is held in June.

The Sewing Circle

The Sewing Circle meets Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. to sew all kind of needs for the local community. One of our specialties is the humble quilt – a large warm, water-resistant comforter made for Harrisburg’s homeless. Over 550 quilts have been sewn and distributed. Another specialty is lap quilts for children in crisis. We also make bibs, bed quilts, curtains and other items needed for local shelters. Events during the year include displaying, blessing and delivering quilts, Night Owl sewing sessions and take-home sewing kits. No special sewing skills are needed.

Presbyterian Women also give their time and talent to various mission and outreach work including Santa Shop, a traveling free shop for Harrisburg children where they may select Christmas gifts for their loved ones. We also collect funds for PW’s Least Coin campaign, write supportive letters to women in shelters and half-way houses, and make thousands of Mother’s Day cards distributed to U.S. military for personnel use. Financial support is given to the Bethesda Mission Women’s Shelter, the YWCA’s Shelter for Domestic Abuse and the Allison Hill Community Ministry. We hold fundraising events throughout the year including a soup sale and sale of holiday cookies.
