Presbyterian Women of Paxton

All women of the church are members of the Paxton Presbyterian Women’s Association. We provide Circles, fellowship times, mission and outreach. We seek to nurture women of all ages by encouraging the fellowship of the members.

  • Circle 2 meets on the first Tuesday of each month in Room 201 at 12:30 pm for a lesson. A hostess provides dessert and members bring sandwiches to share.
  • The Unity Circle meets on the second Tuesday at 12:00 pm in Room 202 for lesson and fellowship. Each person brings a packed lunch and a hostess provides beverages and dessert. An annual picnic is held in June.
  • The Sewing Circle meets every Wednesday at 9:30 am in Fellowship Hall to sew for all kinds of needs in the local community. One of our specialties is The Humble Quilt: a large warm water-resistant comforter made for Harrisburg’s homeless people. To date, we have made 550 such quilts. Another specialty is Lap Quilts for children in crisis in Harrisburg. We also make bibs, bed quilts, curtains, and other items needed by local shelters.  Events during the year include displays and blessings of quilts, Night Owl Sewing Sessions, delivery of quilts directly to Harrisburg’s needy, and take-home sewing kits. No special sewing skills are needed.

Along with these dedicated circles, the PW women give their time and talent to mission works. Our largest endeavor is Santa Shop, now in its 15th year, a traveling free shop for Harrisburg children in need. At this shop, children are given the chance to select gifts for their loved ones. We also collect coins for PW’s Least Coin Campaign, write supportive love letters to women in shelter and half-way houses, and make thousands of Mother’s Day cards for US soldiers to use in April.  We financially support the Silence of Mary House, the YWCA Shelter, the Bethesda Mission for Women and Children and Lighthouse Ministries.

We hold fundraising events throughout the year including a Friendly’s Dinner Night, a Soup Sale, and a Christmas Cookie Sale.
